The Alabama Prison Arts + Education Project (APAEP) at Auburn University has been offering high-quality classroom experiences to Alabama’s prison population since 2004. With the addition of a degree program in 2017, APAEP joined a cohort of programs across the country providing a college experience to incarcerated students. Shaelyn Smith, Program Administrator with APAEP, will discuss the national field of prison education, APAEP’s past and recent work, new programming directions for the future, and different ways people can get involved.
