The AUUF Compassion Exchange is an initiative of the AUUF Congregational Support Committee that seeks to identify people within the AUUF community with skills to provide assistance and pair them with people who need assistance as needs arise. Members and friends sign-up, indicate the categories that they are willing to help with, and, when a need arises in our community for someone to help, we will contact everyone in the category to let them know! At that point, you can either say you are willing to help with the request, or you can ignore it if you are unable to help at this time.

There is no time obligation with the Compassion Exchange! You can help as often as your situation allows.

The Compassion Exchange does not replace existing caring and pastoral care programs but supplements them by pairing people who need assistance with a common need with a member of our community willing to provide assistance.

The following six categories are currently supported by the Compassion Exchange. If your need does not fit within these categories, please contact Rev. Chris or the chair of the Congregational Support Committee.

Listeners: Those willing to listen to a member or friend sort through a troubling issue or dilemma. e.g. someone contemplating a big change or decision.

Phone Friends: Those willing to call members and friends who may require services on a regular basis to check in with them and see what services they may need, e.g. those who may need transport or handy-helpers on a regular basis. This is a perfect way for those who may not be able to get around easily to still engage compassionately with members of our community.

Nourishers: Those willing to prepare a soup or meal for member(s) or friend(s) in difficult circumstances, e.g. a family or individual suffering a loss or serious family illness.

Transporters: Those willing to drive/accompany someone to an appointment, deliver nourishment, or bring to the Fellowship for a service or other program. e.g. to a homebound person going through trying times.

Visitors: Those willing to visit a care facility or at home. e.g. bring news of AUUF and check-in for the well-being of a member or friend.

Handy Helpers: Those willing to complete simple household tasks such as moving items or changing light bulbs or provide advice in case of a repair.
