On Tuesday, October 29 the Auburn Community Orchestra, including AUUF’s own Carl Backman, will perform at Pebble Hill, nearly next door to the fellowship. The program features Show Music, where shows include an opera, a Shakespearian tragedy, and selections from several Broadway hits. More specifically, the program begins with the Overture to Verdi’s opera Nabucco, wanders back to the Kennedy administration’s favorite, Camelot, goes on to “George Gershwin in Concert,” excerpts the love theme from Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture, moves cleverly to selections from the 1950’s Romeo & Juliet spinoff, West Side Story, and closes with a bang, not a whimper, with Highlights from Wicked. A AUUF member Carl Backman will be visible and possibly even audible back there in the trombone section. More important, Auburn High’s old (take that as you will) band director Rusty “Doc” Logan will be conducting. The program will begin at 6 or as close to 6 as all the members can get to the gig. Bring something to sit on and perhaps even something to keep you warm- who knows when Autumn may arrive?
