UUSC condemns the United States’ and Israel’s military airstrikes in Iran. This action has caused hundreds of casualties across the Middle East so far and dangerously expands unchecked and deadly imperialism.
We align ourselves with the Unitarian Universalist Association’s longstanding opposition to any intervention into Iran by the U.S. military. We support the pursuit of diplomatic resolutions in the region that protect people’s dignity, safety, and human rights.
The Trump administration’s dishonest and immoral approach to foreign policy is quickly destabilizing the region, alienating our allies further, and bypassing Congressional approval. Recent attempts to topple regimes with direct military action come with great cost to human life and our shared global futures. The U.S. and Israel recklessly risk an escalation of the situation into a larger war.
We urge an immediate ceasefire and return to multilateral coordination to address nuclear threats and find peaceful paths to ensure people’s safety.
At UUSC, we know that all struggles against imperialism are connected. We can learn much from the Iranian women’s movement and resistance. Our collective freedom requires the safety, liberation, and self-actualization of all people around the world. A ceasefire is imperative to uphold the human rights of Iranians and, by extension, the dignity of us all.
