We Bloom Together: A Flower Communion Service

It is very close to the 103rd anniversary of the first UU Flower Communion in Prague Czechoslavia on June 4th, 1923 conducted by UU minister Norbert Čapek (pronounced “Chop-ek”)

What Does This Service Celebrate?

Flower Communion is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of life.  No two flowers are alike, just like we as people are all different.  Our UU community is enriched by our diversity and we all have different gifts that are valuable. You can read a little about this service in this article:

The Story of Norbert Capek’s Flower Ceremony

How Does It Work?

1. Bring a flower from anywhere-your own garden, a field, the roadside, or even the supermarket. Put your flower in one of the vases that will be up front before the service begins. (Or discreetly if you arrive after the service starts).

2.  As part of the service, you’ll have the opportunity to select another flower!

3.  After the service, feel free to select another flower if we have extras!

In this Flower Communion service, we honor the interdependence of all life and the beauty each person brings to our shared community. Flowers are fragile, resilient, and shaped by the ecosystems that sustain them. Like flowers, we, too, flourish through connection.
